1) Million Instructions Per Second - миллионов команд в секундуединица измерения быстродействия процессора. Впервые термин появился на машинах VAX 11/780 корпорации DEC. B MIPS приближённо измеряется число машинных команд, которые процессор может исполнить за одну секунду. Однако в процессорах c CISC-архитектурой разные команды имеют различные времена исполнения, поэтому часто говорят о быстродействиии на стандартной для какого-либо класса приложений смеси команд. Кроме того, стандартизованного метода для определения быстродействия в MIPS не существует. Критики называют её "meaningless indicator of processor speed" (бессмысленный показатель скорости процессора), другое толкование - "marketing's idea of processor speed" (скорость процессора как маркетинговый фактор).
